All you need to know about Israel and Jerusalem
Owing to religious belief Jerusalem has always been the locus of Jewish people. And being surrounded by number of Arab nations have increased the pressure point. Everyone wanted it.
Palestine region was always the matter of conflict. In 1917 when Britain was governing Palestine, it wanted to make it Jewish State considering the holiness of Jerusalem. And after world war II and holocaust events, it was out of sympathy that majority in power wanted Jerusalem to be a Jewish State and there should be no division as such. When the UN was created, this matter was put in the table, UN decided to divide it into Arab and Jewish part.
Such was the division map.
And almost with 80% majority Palestine was divided. It was decided that Jerusalem would not be the part of either the State and its integrity would be maintained by UN only. And on 14-05-1948 Jewish leaders in the region formed the state of Israel. Later on Arab armies invaded Israel. In the Arab-Israeli War, Israel defeated its enemies. It was the first of several wars fought between Israel and its neighbors. Israel captured Jerusalem, and from later on the has been issues with the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's Capital. And from that time there has been multiple capturing, wars, strikes whole Palestine region is in tension and apathy.
US has always been the major supporter of Israel for obvious reasons, and thus it opted out from UNESCO and yesterday even recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The Israeli-Palestine conflict can be settled only after an agreement is reached on the status of Jerusalem
